Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

I want to intern with Skylight to gain invaluable experience as a continuation of my education as a Finance major at the Villanova School of Business. I enjoy meeting new people and am looking to make a positive impact on everyone I come across in my personal and professional career.

Tell us something you are really good at?

Arranging pictures and memorabilia into beautiful collages. Give me a few pictures, some ticket stubs, and other collectibles and I will produce an elaborate collage in no time.

    A fun fact about you:

I had the pleasure of attending the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship game in Houston in April of 2016. I watched my friend Kris Jenkins win the game for Villanova with a three-point shot at the buzzer in what is being called the best game of college basketball to ever be played.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

As strange as it sounds, I love trekking up to the (publicly accessible) rooftop of the Cleveland Clinic main campus. Watching the sun set over the lakefront while sipping a milkshake from Tommy’s is unbeatable.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my very limited free time, I enjoy practicing yoga, running or biking outdoors, and food shopping at Trader Joe’s. When I am home, I love watching my brother play baseball for St. Ignatius and enjoying coffee with my grandmother in Little Italy. I also love hanging out with my two golden retrievers, Daisy and Lily.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I once dropped everything to accompany my friend on an all-expenses-paid 10-day biking trip through the South of France. We biked over 60 miles a day—up humongous mountains and through all kinds of weather. It was an experience I will never forget.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

I would most like to meet Janet Yellen, current Chairwoman of the Federal Reserve. This past semester, I had the opportunity to compose extensive research for a paper examining the reasoning behind her decision to work in the public sector instead of the private sector. I would commend her life’s work and then of course ask her for her best advice to a young woman entering the workforce in a male-dominated field.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

At 31, I want to be at a place in my career that allows for me to have a family of my own. I want to feel proud of my successes thus far knowing that I have brought value to the world that did not exist before I began working. Most importantly, I want to love what I am doing with my life (while cheering on the Cavs, Indians, or even Browns to bring a championship home to Cleveland).

Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

I wanted to intern at Skylight to gain hands on experience in the financial planning industry. I was a financial analyst intern the last two summers and want to experience the other side of the industry. Also, when I graduate I would like to go into the financial planning side instead of financial analysis, so this was a great company to be able to make that happen.

Tell us something you are really good at?

One thing that I am really good at is reading people. I play poker almost as much as I play golf and it has taught me how to read peoples’ exterior emotions.

    A fun fact about you:

Something interesting about me is that I enjoy volunteer work. Four years ago I went on a medical mission trip to Haiti and gained one of the greatest and most enriching experiences of my life.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

My favorite place to hang out would have to be at a Cavs or Indians game. I am a die-hard Cavs fan and have played baseball ever since I was little. There is nothing better than being involved in something that is bigger than yourself and being able to feel a part of it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I am a big golfer. Ever since I graduated high school I have gotten big into golf. If I am not involved with work or school you can most likely find me out on a golf course.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

The most adventurous thing I have ever done would have to be zip lining. I enjoy the outdoors, but I am extremely scared of heights. Because of that zip lining was extremely scary for me and would be one of the most adventurous things I have done.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

The person I would most like to meet is Derek Jeter. Baseball has been my love ever since I was little and I grew up watching him play. He has been my idol ever since I was young and I would love to be able to meet him.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

10 years from now I would like to own my own business and be married with a possible kid on the way. Owning my own business has always been a dream of mine.

Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

I wanted to intern at a Financial Planning company that was not located downtown because I knew I would get a more hands on experience rather than making phone calls to residents all day. When I visited here, I fell in love instantly and knew it was exactly what I was looking for.

Tell us something you are really good at?

I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. Just about any genre: ballet, pointe, tap, hip-hop, and contemporary.

    A fun fact about you:

My drink of choice is milk (don’t worry it’s 2%). I could settle for chocolate milk sometimes, but everyone in my life is grossed out at the amount of white milk I drink.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

East 4th in downtown Cleveland is always a great time with great food. I feel like I am in another country with the lights hanging from the buildings, great music coming from the House of Blues, and everyone is so joyful. I like to hangout there especially during a Cavs game. I also like the flats because it is right on the beach.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When my mood is motivated, I like to workout, but when my mood is lazy, I like to watch Netflix and nap.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I went to Barcelona, Spain for Ohio University’s Global Consulting Program. Travelling alone was adventurous enough, but hiking up to Park Guell was so beautiful, meeting and interacting with Spain students was great, and just wandering through the streets of Barcelona experiencing another culture was the best adventure I could ask for.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

    Kevin Love

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

I want to have a house on the lake married to my best friend with three kids, 2 boys and 1 girl, working at a great job where I can help clients achieve their financial goals.

    Zip lining in Gatlinburg, TN.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

I would most like to meet my great-grandfather because I have heard so many different stories and I wish I could meet the man behind them.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

Ten years from now, I see myself having a family of my own. I also plan to be 9 years into my successful career in the financial industry.

Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

I wanted to intern at Skylight because I feel that they can give me the tools I need to succeed in the future. I also enjoy hearing about the great work culture that they have at Skylight and look forward to being able to be a part of that.

I wouldn’t say I’m extremely good at it but I am not too shabby of a golfer.

    A fun fact about you:

I am originally from Williamsburg, Virginia.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

My favorite place to hangout when I am home in Cleveland is the West Side Irish American Club. My family has been going there to hangout for a few years now and it is always nice to go there and socialize with other members of the club.

I really enjoy playing golf in my spare time as well as socializing with friends and family.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

The most adventurous thing that I have ever tried to do is surfing on vacation in the Outer Banks.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

There are a couple of people I would like to meet so I will list one alive and one dead. One alive is Warren Buffet. I think since I am interested in the finance field it would be really neat to meet such an icon in this industry. Someone dead that I would like to meet would be Frank Sinatra. I am interested in hearing about the Rat Pack and how the times where then.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

Where I want to be in 10 years from now is to possible be starting to think about opening up my own financial service firm or accounting practice. With that being said I also would not be disappointed if I was somewhere higher up within a smaller company that I enjoy being a part of.

Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

Skylight Financial Group gives young professionals the ability to learn first hand what it is like to be a Financial Planner. I have heard many good things about Skylight, one of which was how they train new planners. I thought that being an intern here would help me get the training I need to become a successful Financial Planner.

Tell us something you are really good at?

I consider myself a really good skier. I used to ski competitively growing up and it's one of my favoritehobbies.

    A fun fact about you:

As a senior at St. Ignatius High School I won the 2011 State Championship in football. I was second on the team in total tackles with 136 on the season.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

I enjoy hanging out around the Ohio City/Tremont Area. It’s a place with a lot of culture and offers some of the best places to eat in Cleveland. I would recommend any restaurant in these two areas.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In the winter I enjoy skiing with my family in Ellicottville, NY. In the summer I enjoy playing golf with my siblings and my dad, and going on Lake Erie to go boating. We are a pretty competitive family and enjoy one-upping each other.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Why did you want to intern at Skylight?

I really want to get into the financial services industry and not many companies offered a specific internship that was based around financial planning except for Skylight. After going to one of their internship information sessions, the idea they talked about of filling these financial planning roles with younger professionals stood out to me. .

Tell us something you are really good at?

I’m good at drawing. When I was younger I loved art and some of those skills stuck with me even though I don’t do it much anymore.

    A fun fact about you:

I used to play basketball in college at Muskingum University (New Concord, Ohio). It was very short-lived as I transferred after my first year there but it was a great opportunity and a learning experience.

Your favorite place to hang out in Cleveland or Columbus:

I enjoy going to the Short North in Columbus because it is such a nice, upbeat area with great food. I also enjoy a place in Gahanna called Coaches. A family friend has a band that plays there a few times throughout the summer and a group of us always go and watch.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy working out, reading (just read Gone Girl), watching Netflix shows (Mad Men is my favourite), and spending time with family and friends.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I rode the Drop Zone at King’s Island when I was in 8th grade. I am terrified of heights so riding that was easily the scariest and most adventurous thing I’ve ever done. I have not rode that ride or been to King’s Island since then.

Who would you most like to meet – alive or dead?

Lebron James. I would love to ask him about his mindset and what drives him. He seems pretty personable and funny as well. Also, I’m sure a little bit of basketball would be discussed as well (lol).

Where do you want to be 10 years from now?

I would love to be living in a large city, about the size of Columbus or larger. Ideally I would be married and be established in my career as a financial planner. I would have season tickets for the local NBA team. I will be eating Chipotle at least every other day.
