Bryan Kranek of Skylight helps Cleveland Browns win the MADD “Designated Driver” challenge
Bryan Kranek, a financial planner at Skylight Financial Group, has been playing a key role in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) “Designated Driver” challenge vs the Cincinnati Bengals. Bryan, along with a group of around 10 volunteers, has been going to each of the Browns’ games and asking people to pledge to not drink and drive home from the game in return for a coupon for a free soda, coffee or hot chocolate. In 2013, they succeeded in getting over 10,000 pledges from people to make a safe journey home and have beaten the Cincinnati Bengals for the third season in a row.
Bryan’s passionate involvement in MADD is born out of his first-hand experience of the devastation that drunk driving can inflict. While still a senior in high school, he was hit by a drunk driver while rollerblading down his road. The driver never stopped. Bryan had to undergo emergency brain surgery and spent 6 days in a coma. Coming out of a coma, he was left paralyzed on the left side of his body and had to relearn everything from counting to walking and feeding himself.
Since rebuilding his life, Bryan has become an ardent advocate against drunk driving and frequently gives speeches at high schools, colleges and town hall meetings. In 2011, filled with a desire to make an even greater impact, he joined MADD, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. As an active member of MADD, he sits on their board to help with fund raising, is involved with outreach to the community and assists in services to help those who have been hurt or have had a family member killed by a drunken driver.
