Mark Owens of Skylight picks up his Sports Development Gold Medalist Award
At the star-studded 14th Annual Greater Cleveland Sports Award on January 23, Mark Owens, Director of Marketing at Skylight Financial Group, received the “Sports Development Gold Medalist Award” in recognition of his great leadership and organization of the highly successful Skylight sponsored North American Gaelic Games Championship last summer. The Games saw over 2,300 athletes across 100 teams come to Cleveland from all over the US, Canada and even the Cayman Islands and is estimated to have brought in close to $1.4 million to the region’s economy.
On receiving the award Mark commented, “I am very honored to have received such an award. In the two years of planning for the Gaelic Games Championships there were numerous people, sponsors and volunteers that helped make the event the success it was. This award is as much for them as it is for me. It is very clear that we created a solid legacy in the City of Cleveland for future events and we look forward to bringing folks back to the area once again.”
“Mark was instrumental in bringing the North American Gaelic Games Finals to Cleveland. His leadership and passion created an event that established a new standard of excellence in the North American Gaelic Games community,” said David Gilbert, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission President and CEO.
The awards gala, which has become the biggest night in Cleveland sport, was hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter and saw Cleveland Browns legend Bernie Kosar receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. It was an unforgettable evening of sports tributes and highlights which recognized the best and brightest in Cleveland’s amateur and professional sports and showcased the excitement and enthusiasm Greater Cleveland has for its sports teams and athletes.
