Mark Owens of Skylight to lead the 147th Cleveland St Patrick’s Day Parade
Congratulations to Mark Owens, Director of Marketing at Skylight Financial Group, who will be one of 4 honorees to lead the fun-filled Cleveland St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th. Mark (left of photo), who is originally from Derry City in Ireland, is actively involved in several Irish organizations in Cleveland including St Patrick’s Gaelic Football Club which he has chaired since 2007, the hugely successful North American Gaelic Games Championships which were hosted in Cleveland last August and the Cleveland Irish Network which brings together Irish/Irish-American business owners and associates.
Cleveland’s St Patrick’s Day Parade, which celebrates Irish heritage and culture, is one of the oldest parades in the country and the largest in Ohio. In previous years up to 500,000 spectators, resplendent in “green”, have joined in the fun. This year’s parade theme is Irish entertainers of stage and screen and over 10,000 participants are expected to be in the parade itself. Spectators can look forward to dancing, bands, floats, marching, drill teams, novelty units and much more.
On hearing he was to lead the parade, Mark said “I am absolutely honored to be chosen as one of the honorees to lead this year’s parade. It’s a terrific day which celebrates all that’s Irish and is enjoyed by people of all nationalities. There’s entertainment for all the family and it’s great “craic” as they say in Ireland.”
The parade begins at 1:04pm on Monday March 17th at the intersection of Superior Avenue & East 18th Street and goes through all of downtown.
