Skylight Toledo Raise over $5k to Help End Breast Cancer

8/21/2017

The team at Skylight’s Toledo office (Maumee), joined over 1,600 walkers, survivors and volunteers on a beautiful but chilly sunny day in Perrysburg earlier this year to take part in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk to support the American Cancer Society in working to create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer.

The Toledo Skylight team, who have participated in this special event for the past 3 years, teamed up this year with an agent’s good friend’s team, Julie Cousino, to double their team size and donation efforts.  Julie is currently in treatment for breast cancer and was an inspiration to the team with her positive attitude, courage and determination.  Fundraising started early in the year with a silent auction which was greatly supported by local small business owners.  This was followed by a bake sale and a soup lunch.  One of our agents lost his sister to breast cancer not long before the May 6th walk and he challenged everyone in the agency to collectively donate $500 (which was raised within 2 hours) before the walk and he matched the $500 donated.

Mary Gensler, Operations Coordinator in Toledo, said “Through the walk we recognize those who have fought and won the battle against breast cancer and those who lost their battle. We were delighted to have raised $5,217 from our fundraising events and donations and are so thankful for the support of our agency associates, family and friends.  All the proceeds will go toward researching breast cancer in our area.  It was a fun event and we look forward to next year’s walk and topping the money raised!”
