Skylight Goes “blue” for World Autism Awareness Day

4/3/2015

Skylight Financial Group’s Special Needs Team joined the worldwide celebrations on April 2 to honor World Autism Awareness Day themed Light it Up Blue. Over 10,000 buildings throughout the world went blue including many of the most iconic landmarks, from the Great Pyramid in Egypt to the Sagrada Familia Church in Barcelona and London’s Trafalgar Square.

Skylight celebrated, along with several families who have children with autism, on our Ohio City rooftop.  It was as fun event, with the raising of the “Autism Awareness” flag, getting dressed up in blue and enjoying some tasty blue-themed donuts and refreshments.

“The Light it Up Blue campaign is a wonderful opportunity to educate the world on autism and help better our community.  It was such an honor for us to be able to celebrate the day with our friends who have autism. We all had a great time and felt very much part of a global community,” said Brian Marino of Skylight’s Special Needs Team.

More than 70 million individuals have autism worldwide.  Goals of the awareness day include encouraging our legislators to push for autism reform in all 50 states, supporting autism research and showing the autism community that they are not alone.
