Skylight Showcase: New Hires of August 2019

In this month’s lineup, we are introducing Celia Hague from Hampton Bays, New York, and Elyria native Gayle Motyka! Learn more about the two below.

Celia Hague, Operations Assistant, Cleveland

Why did you choose to work at Skylight?

I graduated from school in 2017 with a degree in Tourism and have spent the past two years working in the hospitality industry. When I decided to make a career transition into business, Skylight seems like the perfect place to get started!

What causes, or community services do you have passion for?

In the past year I’ve become a lot more passionate about sustainability. My good friend from college decided to go back to school to get her masters in sustainability and has since really opened my eyes to daily things we use that cause harm to our planet.

I always make a conscious effort to not use single use products, always recycle, carry a reusable cup or water bottle wherever I go and other small sustainable swaps that make a huge impact. I hope to expand my knowledge on the cause and continue to make changes in my day to day routine as well as educate others at the same time.

What life achievement are you most proud of?

Growing up I always had an infatuation with Hawaii and I always said I would live there one day no matter what it took. Right before graduating college I was offered a job working for Hyatt Hotels Corporation. I had to put down 3 location preferences during my interview and Hawaii was my #1 choice. Not being the easiest destination to get, it was to my surprise when I found out that I got placed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa located right in the heart of Honolulu.

I got to explore my home, Oahu, as well as the outer islands: Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island aka “Big Island” over the course of 2 years. I hope to find my way back to Hawaii later in life and call it home again for good!

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of the office, when I’m not stuffing my face at local eateries, I enjoy practicing yoga at a small studio in Lakewood as well as at home. I’ve always loved hiking and am looking for new places to explore in Cleveland! I also love to spend time with my niece, Biz, who is 3 going on 25 and my 1 year old niece, Caroline, who has an uncanny resemblance to Chris Farley!

Which celebrity would you choose to play you in the movie about your life?

I would have to choose Kristen Wigg to play me in a movie about my life. I enjoy making people laugh and I don’t like to take life too seriously so I feel like she would do a great job portraying that. After bridesmaids came out several people told me I remind them of Kristen’s character, Annie, which I’m still trying to figure out whether to take as a compliment or not.

Gayle Motyka, Brokerage Operations Admin Assistant, Cleveland

Why did you choose to work at Skylight?

After working in the health insurance industry for a few years, I realized that I really missed working with people in the financial services. I came across Skylight and they gave me a chance to return to an industry I have always enjoyed so I jumped on the opportunity!

What causes, or community services do you have passion for?

I like to volunteer any time and resources I can to the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am also very active with the Ohio Pug Rescue, a nonprofit that operates a foster care and placement program for all pugs in need—no matter their age, condition, or health. As a passionate pug owner, being able to work with this organization is beyond rewarding!

Outside of the office, what do you enjoy doing?

Being a certified dog trainer, I spend a lot of my free time with working with my clients and their dogs. I loved being around dogs so much, becoming a trainer seemed like a no-brainer! I offer a wide range of trainings—from puppy basics, to aggression and reactivity issues.

What is something about you that surprises most people?

I love to listen to rock in all its forms: grunge, hard rock, and Christian rock are my favorites! I also love to drink Guinness.

What would a sandwich named after you have on it?

I grew up on eastern European food, so my sandwich would consist of schnitzel, potato pancakes, pierogis and sauerkraut—and of course a strudel for dessert!

Thanks Celia and Gayle!
