Skylight Showcase: New Hires of October 2018

Introducing the latest additions to the Skylight team! Learn more about new hires Christy, Jeremy, Trent, and Jack below.

Christy Oprandi, Financial Professional, Dublin

Why did you choose to work at Skylight?

I originally joined Skylight Financial Group in January 2018 as an agent’s assistant.  I quickly observed what a top-notch organization Skylight Financial Group is! SFG truly recognizes the compassion, trust, and service that the financial industry necessitates.  I have never seen more committed individuals as the ones I have had the honor of working with over the past year. Therefore, when I was offered the opportunity to take on the financial professional role, I was ecstatic!

The Oprandi Clan is made up of 2 boys and 2 girls!

What causes, or community services do you have a passion for?

My community involvement consists of W.I.S.E (Women In Service Everyday), Big Brothers Big Sisters, Licking County Special Olympics, and various other service projects.  My passion stems from helping up those who have fallen hard….and might just need a kind hand to get back up!

What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?

I have my mind set on public speaking.  I have never spoken in front of a large crowd before, but I know that sharing my life story could have a huge impact on someone’s choices.

Tell us about a few things you have on your bucket list.

Public speaking, visit Greece and Bali, travel to New England in the fall, and lead an organization that is committed to making a difference!

If you absolutely had to sing karaoke, what song would you pick?

“Hit Me With Your Best Shot!”, by Pat Benatar

Jeremy Stich, Financial Professional, Cleveland

Why did you choose to work at Skylight?

I chose to work at Skylight because I have seen first-hand how this place can impact someone in their personal life and/or their business life. I believe they provide some of the best financial assistance that is out there, plus working down in Ohio City definitely has its perks!

What causes, or community services do you have a passion for?

I like to spend my time volunteering for the Medina City School District, assisting in everything from the Friday night football games to school fundraising events. I have cherished the experiences that Medina High School has given me and I want to continue to help provide for the students.

What life achievement are you most proud of?

I am most proud of being a captain of Medina’s football team my senior year. Not only did we achieve the best record in the school’s history, we beat long-standing powerhouse Canton McKinley in the state playoffs!

Tell us about a few things you have on your bucket list.

Currently, I am trying to get to every Major League Baseball stadium. So far, I have attended 11 of them, which means I only have 19 to go!

What TV show are you currently hooked on?

Currently hooked on “The Ozarks”— love the cast! I am also watching, “House of Cards”, on Netflix.

Trent Schulz, Financial Advisor, Cleveland

Why did you choose Skylight?

Skylight has the perfect mix of everything I was looking for. It has the entrepreneurial spirit of a small company with the leadership and support of a large company. Their commitment to mentorship really impressed me as well, it is nice to know that I can reach out to senior-level advisors for help with situations I haven’t dealt with before.

What causes, or community services do you have a passion for?

Growing up I was very active in the Special Olympics program in my hometown Middleburg Heights. My sister has special needs, so it was always important to my family to support fundraisers and initiatives like this any way we could. I am also looking to become involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland program.

If you could share a beer with any person throughout history, who would it be and why?

George Washington, I would love to pick his brain and hear what it was like to be the first President of the United States!

What was your first job ever? What did you like/dislike about it?

My first job ever was as a laborer for my dad’s construction company. I spent most of my summers growing up doing clean-ups, demo’s, and minor roof repairs. I liked being able to work outside, and anyone who has been on a tar roof in July can guess what I didn’t like about it!

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, which movie would it be?

Definitely Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s one of my favorites and every time I see it on I get completely sucked into it, also the soundtrack is fantastic!

Jack Coakley, Digital Marketing Coordinator, Cleveland

Why did you choose to work at Skylight?

Right away, I felt a real connection with the leadership at Skylight. The men and women that make up this organization are genuine, ambitious, and kindhearted. I knew instantly that this was culture I wanted to be a part of.

What causes, or community services do you have a passion for?

I have always had a passion for community supported agriculture and food justice organizations. Too many people in this country struggle to gain access to affordable and nourishing food items. Supporting these initiatives helps to bring environmental and social prosperity to our neighborhoods. Although I just moved to the Cleveland area at the tail end of the season, my hope is to work with groups like the Ohio City Farm in the near future!

Tell us about a few things you have on your bucket list.

Being a fervent home cook, I like to challenge myself by making my favorite dishes from scratch. I would like to perfect my ramen making abilities by the end of the year, since I could eat a bowl of it every day—the real kind, not the stuff that comes out of the microwave!

Also, I would really like to learn to surf, at least surf a single wave (this one always gets a chuckle from my friends and family, given that I am famously ungraceful).

What was the first concert you ever went to?

When I was 11 years old my dad brought me to see his favorite band, The Pogues. They’re an Irish punk band that were very popular in the 80’s…I was the youngest one there by a wide margin!  They put a tremendous show that my dad and I still talk about to this day.

If you absolutely had to sing karaoke, what song would you pick?

My rendition of “What’s Up?” By Four Non-Blondes is a real showstopper!

Thanks for sharing everyone!
