Skylight Financial Group was delighted to sponsor the Ohio AFL-CIO’s 3rd Annual Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) Dinner on March 13 at the UA Local 189 Hall in Columbus.  The event was a huge success with nearly 500 union leaders, rank-and-file members and supporters of labor coming together for the biggest USA dinner in the country.  In addition to raising funds for conservation projects in Ohio, the dinner provided the perfect opportunity for union sportsmen and women to come together outside the workplace to discuss important conservations issues and begin planning projects in the communities.

“This is a great night where union members can come together under the umbrella of their home union and have fellowship around activities they are passionate about while at the same time raising much-need funds for local conservation efforts,” said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga.  “Three years ago we hosted our first dinner and they keep getting bigger and bigger.”

USA Executive Director/CEO Fred Myers added “It’s the biggest dinner in the country and the support we get in Ohio from union leaders to the rank-and-file members to the sponsors is incredible.  It reminds me that what we are doing in the USA is vital.  That is why we will be the largest and most effective conservation organization and that says something about what being union means in America.”

Rick Rudnicki, Financial Planner with Skylight Financial Group said, “I was so proud that Skylight Financial Group supported this event.  I was a union business rep for years before I decided to take a job where I can help members plan to retire with dignity.  This event was a great opportunity for us to give back to those that help keep us safe, repair our roads, teach our kids and take care of us when we are sick.”

The Ohio AFL-CIO, formed in 1958, has been at the forefront of struggles for political power and economic and social justice for working families.  The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance is a union-operated, union-dedication 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose members hunt, fish and shoot and volunteer their skills for conservation.  Money raised from the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance dinner in 2013 went to help fund the Blackfork Wetlands project in conjunction with Ashland University.  In 2014, proceeds helped support a special needs children’s youth hunt in Southern Ohio.
